The Dallas Mavericks (often referred to as the Mavs) are an American professional basketball team based in Dallas. The Mavericks compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Southwest Division of the Western Conference. The team plays its home games at American Airlines Center, which it shares with the National Hockey League's Dallas Stars. Throughout the 1980s, the Mavericks were a perennial playoff team, led by All-Stars Rolando Blackman and Mark Aguirre. The team struggled during the 1990s, entering into a period of rebuilding. Western Conference (NBA)
The Western Conference is one of two conferences that make up the National Basketball Association (NBA), the other being the Eastern Conference. Both conferences consist of 15 teams organized into three divisions. The Western Conference comprises the Northwest, Pacific, and Southwest Divisions. The current divisional alignment was adopted at the start of the 2004–05 season, when the now Charlotte Hornets began play as the NBA's 30th franchise. This necessitated the move of the New Orleans Pelicans (named New Orleans Hornets at the time) from the Eastern Conference's Central Division to the newly created Southwest Division of the Western Conference. 2006–07 Dallas Mavericks Season
The 2006–07 Dallas Mavericks season was the team's 27th in the NBA. The Mavericks entered the season as the runners-up of the 2006 NBA Finals, where they lost to the Miami Heat in six games. They began the season hoping to improve upon their 60–22 output from the previous season. They improved by seven wins, finishing 67–15, claiming the top seed in the Western Conference, and qualifying for the playoffs for the seventh consecutive season. In the first round, they met the eight-seeded Golden State Warriors, and lost in six games in a shocking upset. The Mavericks became the third first-seeded team in NBA history to be eliminated by an eighth-seeded team in the playoffs, following the Seattle SuperSonics in 1994, and the Miami Heat in 1999. The Dallas Stars are a professional ice hockey team based in Dallas. Rolando Antonio Blackman (born February 26, 1959) is a Panamanian-American former professional basketball player who spent 13 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA), most of it with the Dallas Mavericks. Bradley Ernest Davis (born December 17, 1955) is an American former professional basketball player who spent the bulk of his National Basketball Association (NBA) career with the Dallas Mavericks.
